Wood Varnishing & Clear Coating Vancouver

Protect the Wood, Keep the Grain

Sometimes you do not want to paint over wood – you want to protect it and let the grain show. Varnish and clear coats seal the surface against moisture, UV and wear while keeping the natural look of fir trim, cedar beams, a stained door or a hardwood handrail.

The finish has to suit where the wood lives. Interior trim and furniture take a different product than an exterior door that bakes in summer sun and soaks in winter rain. We choose the right system, prep properly, and build coats for an even, durable result.

What We Clear-Coat

Doors & Entryways

Interior and exterior wood doors sealed and clear-coated for protection and shine.

Trim, Beams & Mouldings

Fir trim, exposed beams and mouldings finished to highlight the grain.

Railings & Stairs

Hardwood handrails, treads and balusters clear-coated to handle daily contact.

Decks & Outdoor Wood

Exterior-rated, UV-resistant clear coats and varnishes for decks and railings.

Furniture & Built-Ins

Tabletops, shelving and built-ins sealed in gloss, satin or matte.

Re-Coat & Restore

Sanding back tired or yellowed varnish and re-coating for a fresh, even finish.

Why Picasshome

The Right Finish for Each Surface

Clear finishes are less forgiving than paint – dust, runs and uneven sheen all show. We sand between coats, control the environment, and match the product to interior or exterior use so the finish looks right and lasts.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between varnish, stain and paint? +
Stain adds colour into the wood; varnish/clear coat seals and protects while keeping the grain visible; paint covers it entirely. We do all three and will recommend the right one for the look you want.
Can you re-coat an old, yellowed varnish? +
Yes. We sand back the tired finish, address any damage, and re-coat for an even, fresh result rather than coating over a failing surface.
What sheen options are there? +
Gloss, semi-gloss, satin and matte. Higher gloss shows more depth but also more imperfections; satin is the most forgiving for trim and doors.
Do you varnish exterior wood like doors and decks? +
Yes, with UV- and moisture-resistant exterior products – important in Vancouver, where sun and rain destroy interior finishes used outdoors.
