Privacy Policy

This explains what Picasshome Painting collects when you ask us for a painting quote, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to get it back or get it deleted.

What we collect

Almost everything we hold about you is something you typed into our quote form yourself. Here’s the whole list.

What you give us on the quote form

What Why we ask Do you have to?
The type of job (interior, exterior, condo, strata or commercial) So we know what kind of quote we’re preparing Yes
A description of what you want painted So we can scope the work before we come out Yes
Your name So we know who we’re talking to Yes
Your phone number So we can call you back about the quote Yes
Your email address So we can send you the quote in writing Yes

That’s it. We don’t ask for your date of birth, your SIN, your banking details or your payment card on this website, and you shouldn’t send them to us through the form.

What gets collected automatically

Like most websites, ours records some basic technical information when you visit:

  • Pages you looked at, how long you stayed, and which site or ad sent you here. This comes from Google Analytics.
  • Your approximate location, worked out from your IP address by Google Analytics. It’s city level, not your street.
  • Your device type, browser and screen size.
  • Your IP address, recorded in our server and security logs so we can block attacks and spam.
  • If you came here by clicking one of our Google ads, the quote form also records the ad click ID, the search term and the page you landed on. That tells us which ad produced a real enquiry. On its own it doesn’t identify you.

We use this to see whether our ads are working and to keep the site up. We don’t use it to build a profile of you as a person.

Why we collect it, and nothing else

We collect your information for these purposes only:

  • To prepare and send you the painting quote you asked for.
  • To contact you about that quote and to book a time to look at the job.
  • To do the work, schedule the crew and get to the right address if you hire us.
  • To keep the business records we’re required to keep.
  • To keep the website working, secure and free of spam.

We don’t use your information for anything else without asking you first.

We do not sell your information.

We’ve never sold, rented or traded customer contact details to anyone, and we’re not going to. No lead brokers, no mailing lists, no data resellers.

Your consent

When you fill in the quote form and press submit, you’re giving us permission to use what you typed for the purposes listed above. That’s the obvious reason you filled it in, and it’s the only thing we’ll use it for.

You can pull that consent back whenever you want. Call or email us and tell us to stop, and we’ll stop, subject to any records we’re legally required to hold onto. If you withdraw consent before we’ve quoted, we just won’t be able to give you the quote.

Marketing email

We email you about the quote you asked for. That’s the point of the form.

We don’t add you to a newsletter or a promotional mailing list off the back of a quote request. If we ever start sending marketing email, we’ll ask you to opt in first, every message will say it’s from Picasshome Painting and include our address, and every message will have a working unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we’ll action it within 10 business days.

Who else sees your information

We keep the circle small. These are the only outside parties involved, and each one only touches what it needs to.

Who What they handle Why
Our web host The website and anything submitted through it They run the server the site sits on
Google (Gmail) Quote requests, once they arrive as email It’s the inbox we read your enquiry in
Google Analytics Anonymous usage data. Not your form answers To see which pages and ads bring in real enquiries
CleanTalk Spam checks on things submitted to the site To stop bot submissions flooding the form
Wordfence IP addresses and login attempts Website security and attack blocking
Google Fonts Serves the fonts the page is set in So the site renders the way it’s meant to

Some of these companies store or process information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. While your information is in another country, that country’s law can apply to it, and courts and government agencies there may be able to get access to it under their own rules. We can’t change that, so we’re telling you plainly.

Beyond the list above, we’ll only hand your information to someone else if you ask us to, or if the law requires it.

Cookies and tracking

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so it can tell a returning visit from a new one. Our security and caching tools may set cookies too, to keep the site working properly.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The quote form still works if you do. You can also install Google’s Analytics opt out add on to keep Google Analytics off your visits entirely.

We don’t run advertising retargeting pixels on this site, so we’re not following you around the internet with ads after you leave.

How long we keep it

We hold onto quote requests while there’s a live conversation or a live job, and for as long afterwards as we need them for our business and tax records. After that we delete them.

If you’d rather we deleted yours sooner, just ask. We’ll do it, apart from anything we’re legally required to keep.

How we protect it

  • The whole site runs over HTTPS, so what you type into the form is encrypted on its way to us.
  • Only the people at Picasshome Painting who need to see your enquiry can see it.
  • We run security software on the site to block attacks and automated spam.
  • We keep the website and its software updated.

No website can promise perfect security, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that we take it seriously and we only keep what we actually need.

Seeing your information, or correcting it

You have the right to ask us:

  • What personal information we hold about you.
  • What we’ve used it for.
  • Who we’ve shared it with.
  • To correct anything that’s wrong.
  • To delete it.

Email or call us using the details at the top of this page. We’ll confirm we’ve got your request, and we’ll get back to you within 30 days. It’s free. If a request would take a lot of work and we need to charge for it, we’ll tell you the cost first and you can decide whether to go ahead.

We may need to check you’re really you before we hand over personal information. That’s to protect you, not to slow you down.

If you’re not happy with how we handled it

Tell us first. Contact our Privacy Officer using the details at the top of this page and we’ll look into it and write back to you.

If you’re still not satisfied, you can take it further:

Children

This site is aimed at people hiring a painter, not at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we’ll delete it.

Links to other sites

If we link out to another website, that site has its own privacy policy and we’re not responsible for it. Worth a read before you hand them anything.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and change the date at the top. If it’s a significant change, we’ll say so clearly rather than quietly editing it.

The law this policy follows

We follow British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies to us. Our email practices follow Canada’s Anti Spam Legislation (CASL).
